Yipe - haven't heard someone recommend Venkman over Firebug since, well, EVER! I could never figure Venkman out; I just opted for the standard JavaScript error console in Mozilla.

It is unfortunate. The sad part is - this takes place everywhere you look. Respected resources ruin their credibility by posting things like this, no matter what the language or tool is. Javascript, PHP, Ruby, MySQL, CSS, and HTML (the list goes on). There are many that proclaim things or propose practices that are simply absurd.

The question is - will it ever stop?

I appreciate your feedback on the recent TechRepublic column. As a longtime developer using a variety of tools like VisuaAge, NetBeans, and Visual Studio over the years to name a few, I like the interface and features provided by the Venkman debugger despite its shortcomings. The Firebug tool is definitely a great Firefox add-on and I may be pushed toward its usage in the future. With that said I should have mentioned it within today's column as well as stating the reasons why I like tool discussed in the column. Once again, I value your feedback - positive or negative - and welcome ideas for future columns or improving the newsletter.
