The postcard for The Impro Cave that I put above the coffee machine at work has been co-opted in an effort to promote best practices when making coffee. Ironically, I think Mark is the only person in the photo who would approve of this.

Just in case you were wondering, the photo at right is not a geocache.
I met briefly with Maggie Maguire, CEO of the Abbotsford Convent today about my interest in placing a geocache on the Convent grounds. On the way, I stopped to pick up Down on the Farm, a popular cache at nearby Collingwood Children’s Farm, to take with me to the meeting.
Though it has been a long time since I received anything truly worthwhile from them, I have somehow managed to remain subscribed to the Web Development Zone newsletter of TechRepublic.com. Its content has remained consistently unremarkable for at least the past year, which, I suppose, is why it has failed to attract enough attention for me to consider unsubscribing … until now.
It’s aliiiiiiiiiive! The first copies of Simply JavaScript—SitePoint’s latest book, co-written by me and Cameron Adams—have arrived! And if you’ll forgive my obvious bias, it looks awesome.
After six months of casual relief teaching work, Jess was hired today to teach Drama and English at Koonung Secondary College!

Look ma – no unread email!
At the risk of tempting fate, I’m posting it for all to see: my email inbox is empty! This time last week, I had some 1,000 unread messages vying for my attention. Things were starting to slip through the cracks, and it was time for a big cleanup.
After the hectic week-and-a-half that has been Unforeseen Stories, I’m enjoying a quiet evening to myself on the grounds of the Abbotsford Convent, where Impro Melbourne keeps its offices and holds most of its training sessions.
Tonight, Jess is training along with the rest of the company’s “Technique” group of up-and-comers in preparation for putting on a season of Harold beginning in July. Meanwhile, I’ve visited a couple of nearby geocaches following reports of a geocoin in the area and have now settled down in a quiet courtyard to partake of the peace and serenity (not to mention the Impro Melbourne wireless network).

After a week on antibiotics, our guinea pig Sunny is at the vet today having a conspicuous growth removed from his abdomen. The bump is mysterious, but we expect him to be fine.
At home with Jess, Toffee seems lost without his big brother. The pair haven’t been apart for more than an hour in their entire lives!
Update: Sunny’s home and doing fine. He’ll have a cool scar to show the ladies.
As if I needed another project to occupy my spare time, I’ve launched a new open source project: Pocket Pocket Query.

A portable application for JavaME/MIDP-enabled devices (including most mobile phones) that enables you to browse an XML database of geocache information—in particular, the Pocket Query data generated by the geocaching.com web site—wherever you go.

The 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival is winding down, and for me at least it has been a festival to remember.
Having recently joined the ranks of Impro Melbourne‘s talented ensemble, this was the first Festival where I took to the stage! Joining on opening night the cast of Impro Melbourne’s production of Smells Like a Song was a privilege … not to mention a blast!
